Langley RCMP officer charged with dangerous driving in 2025 collision
Constable Denis Miano Maina faces two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
A Langley RCMP officer has been charged in connection with a collision that occurred more than a year ago, the BC Prosecution Service announced this week.
Constable Denis Miano Maina faces two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm in relation to an incident on June 1, 2025, on Fraser Highway near 260 Street.
According to the Independent Investigations Office of BC, a marked police vehicle was involved in a collision with a white 2023 Hyundai Elantra shortly before 2:30 a.m. Three people—the officer and the occupants of the Hyundai—were assessed by paramedics at the scene and taken to hospital.
The case was reported to the IIO, the civilian oversight agency that investigates police-involved incidents resulting in death or serious injury, in March of this year following a review of medical evidence. Maina is scheduled to appear in court on June 22.
The delay between the incident and the charge illustrates the complexity of police accountability investigations and the time required to gather evidence.
