A North Vancouver RCMP officer was assaulted while conducting a traffic stop on June 12, leaving the officer with minor injuries.

The incident occurred around 5 p.m. on Low Level Road near Kennard Avenue, when the officer stopped a black Toyota for excessive speeding. During the stop, the driver attempted to leave before being served documents and refused to comply with police direction. On the roadside, the driver allegedly struck the officer multiple times.

Passersby and additional police assisted in taking the suspect into custody. The injured officer was transported to hospital with minor injuries and has since been released. The suspect faces multiple charges including assaulting a police officer and obstruction of a peace officer. Cpl. Mansoor Sahak, Media Relations Officer for North Vancouver RCMP, said the incident "is another reminder of the risk our officers face each day to serve and protect the citizens of North Vancouver."
