The Abbotsford Police Department seized an SUV driver's vehicle Sunday after she ignored a road closure at the intersection of Whatcom Road and South Parallel Road on Saturday and struck an officer.

Police said the driver disregarded instructions from an officer who was securing the scene of a recent motorcycle collision. When the officer attempted to direct her away from the closure, she kept driving, nearly pinning him between her SUV and the police vehicle. He suffered minor injuries.

The driver then accelerated through the scene at a high rate of speed. Police did not pursue but later determined she had reached 160 km/h when leaving. The Abby PD located the vehicle the next day and impounded it as offence-related property, with a forfeiture application underway.

Dangerous driving, flight from police, and assault of a police officer are charges being considered as part of the criminal investigation. The driver's licence is also under review by the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles.
