A Surrey provincial court judge has sentenced Harinder Singh Sihota, a 41-year-old heavy duty mechanic, to four years in prison. With credit for time served, he has 874 days left to serve.

Sihota pleaded guilty to impaired driving causing bodily harm to two people, dangerous driving, and failing to remain at the scene on September 16, 2023. Judge Reginald Harris ordered him to pay restitution totalling $39,389.05 to victims Stacey Johnson and Krystle Zimmer by December 31, 2030.

After hitting three vehicles, Sihota drove through Surrey and Delta at very high speeds, often driving directly toward other vehicles in oncoming traffic and toward pedestrians on multiple occasions. Witnesses described his actions as "Grand Theft Auto kind of driving." He caused 13 collisions resulting in injuries of varying degrees to nine people.

Zimmer sustained a broken neck, fractured skull, and brain injuries. Johnson had four ribs broken. Judge Harris noted that Zimmer lost her ability to work because of the crime but that calculating her income loss was difficult; the matter remains open for civil court.

Harris described the incident as a "rampage" and noted that while Sihota, who became addicted to crystal meth in 2017, has expressed remorse and regret, no sentence can undo the impact. "Ms. Zimmer and her family still have a long road ahead of them with respect to her medical issues," Harris said. Sihota wrote a letter of apology, though his victims chose not to receive it.
