B.C.'s police watchdog is looking for witnesses to an arrest in North Vancouver on August 10 near Lonsdale Quay.
The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIO) investigates incidents involving police that result in serious harm or death, regardless of whether there is an allegation of wrongdoing.
Around 8 p.m. on August 10, North Vancouver RCMP officers were dispatched to assist B.C. Emergency Health Services paramedics with a medical call. When officers arrived, the man "immediately climbed onto the hood of the police vehicle and repeatedly punched and kicked the windshield, causing significant damage," according to police. He was taken into custody and transported to hospital for assessment and treatment.
The incident was not initially reported to the IIO because officers believed the man sustained minor injuries. However, the police watchdog launched an investigation after receiving new information that some injuries may be more serious.
Investigators are also seeking to speak with the occupants of a grey Tesla Model Y that was nearby during the incident.
