Two men charged over 2025 Surrey extortion shootings, including Kap's Cafe attack

Police arrested Pardeep Singh and Saveer Khan, both 22, in Surrey on Nov. 1, and both now face two counts each of reckless discharge of a firearm over two extortion-related shootings last October. Both remain in custody, and the charges have not been tested in court.

The first shooting was Oct. 12, 2025, when bullets were fired at a home in the 1300-block of 103A Avenue. A woman inside was shot in the torso and taken to hospital in critical condition, later described as stable.

Four days later, on Oct. 16, gunfire struck Kap's Cafe, the restaurant owned by Bollywood actor Kapil Sharma. The café was closed, and two staff members were inside but not hurt. It was the third shooting involving the café in three months.

Both shootings were investigated by the BC Provincial Extortion Task Force, which was established in September 2025. Chief Supt. Duncan Pound of the BC RCMP said the charges show police are working together on extortion-related violence.

Police have received 147 extortion threats in Surrey this year, 21 of them involving shootings. Last year, 49 of 133 reported extortion cases involved shootings.
